Soon,Malad residents can enjoy windowshopping during their morning walk. Inorbit mall in Malad west has introduced ‘mall walk’ wherein residents can use the mall premises for morning walks.

The ‘mall walk’ is a common concept outside India. We thought of introducing it here, said CEO,Inorbit Mall,Kishore Bhatija. “We plan to create a mall which can function as a community centre also.”

“The mall is closed in the morning,so it can be used for other purposes. Especially with monsoon approaching, residents will get enough space for walking,” said Bhatija adding,“Also,we thought of this as a good opportunity to connect with the citizens.”

There has been a growing awareness of health among citizens, but the city lacks enough open spaces for walks,he said.

The mall walk will be open to residents from 5.45 am to 9 am and entry will be free.

“We expect at least 100 people a day,” said Bhatija. Gradually,we plan to introduce the concept of mall walk in the other two Inorbit malls — in Vashi and Hyderabad.

According to Citispace, citizen’s organization fighting for open spaces in Mumbai, there are 900-odd recreational grounds, playgrounds, parks and gardens with a total area of around 940 acre.
