In a shocking incident, a tribal mother allegedly axed to death her eighteen-month-old daughter in Wada taluka near here, police said on Thursday.
The accused, who is absconding since the incident, has been identified as Janabai Ratan Khatri, they said, adding the motive behind the ghastly crime is not known yet.
According to police, Janabai, who hails from Abje village in Wada taluka had gone to visit her brother Kanti Laxman More in the same village along with her daughter Sonal on Wednesday morning.
Police said Janabai attacked Sonal, who was playing around, at around 1130 hours with axe killing her on the spot and fled.
The Wada police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC against Janabai.
