Newly-married Anna (Alma), husband Vik (Carlucci) in tow, arrives in Ooty to build bridges with the latter’s estranged father (Vijyendra ). She pours out tea for him, and touches his feet. He says: ‘ayushman bhava’. Huh? Whatever happened to ‘jeeti raho beti’, and ‘jug jug jiyo bahu’?
Idioms are not the only thing that get mangled in this tale of crime, passion and reincarnation. Of course the ‘bahu’ starts seeing dead people in all kinds of places – in the marital bed, when she is in the throes of passion, in an old pub, in a classroom.
The spouse, of course, doesn’t believe a word she says. A thirty year old murder of a foreign woman is resurrected.
Along with it come all the bad old cliches of Bollywood ‘punarjanam’ movies: knife-wielding hooded figures, mysterious female retainers, shadows in mirrors, and clueless cops.
There are also other lures. Backless and topless women, naked men. Any takers?
