‘Let’s Dance’ borrows from Hollywood films top-lining bright young things struggling to make it on the dance floor, with some Bollywood twists thrown in.

Suhani (Gayatri) has a twin-pronged agenda: she wants to keep her dance school going so that the bunch of neighbourhood slumkids have something to do other than peddle drugs.

She also wants to break into the tough world of music videos, without having to give ‘private’ auditions to sleazy choreographers. She’s got support from her roommate who’s a TV anchor (the perky Sugandha, last seen as one of the gang in ‘Jaane Tu Yaa Janne Na’) and a likely lad (Ajay) who runs a roadside eatery, and keeps supplying her with watermelon juice when she’s feeling low.

The film tells a straightforward story, with a couple of nice touches: the youngest slumkid’s hero worship of his dance teacher is sweet. But it needed to be much smarter, with terrific dancing and super sequences, which is the only way to drive a non-starry vehicle.
