MP: Huge quantity of explosives recovered in Rewa

Police action came following a tip-off provided by local citizens about some 'suspicious' goods.

Nearly one truck-load of explosive material,including 5,000 detonators,10 boxes of gelatin sticks and 30 coils of wire,was collectively recovered from a house in New Gangotri Colony here as well as from a vehicle,police said today.

The police action came following a tip-off provided by the local citizens about some “suspicious” goods that was being loaded in a car from the house in the colony.

By the time the police team arrived on the spot,the car had already left the place,following which,all the police stations in the district were alerted.

The car was,however,intercepted later by a policeman from the Raipur Kalchurian police station,situated about 15 km away from here. Explosive material was recovered from the vehicle and the car driver,Manoj Kol,was taken into police custody for interrogation,in-charge of University Police Station R K Singh said.

Later,police also broke open the house in New Gangotri Colony and recovered a huge quantity of explosives,they said.

According to police,the car belongs to one Rajesh Patel of Naini town in Uttar Pradesh,who had taken the house on rent just a couple of days back.

The Kalchurian police suspect that Patel was also present in the car,but escaped on seeing the police.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered and further probe is on,Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) R S Belvanshi said.
