MP: Twenty nine killed as bus falls in a river

  • Twenty nine people, including nine women and a girl, were killed and six injured when a bus carrying them fell into Chambal river, nearly 15 km from Morena, police said.

    The bus fell into Chambal river from Rajghat bridge after breaking its railing from a height of around 500 feet, they said.

    Twenty nine persons were killed and six others injured in the mishap, Morena district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Singh told PTI.

    The bus was pulled out from the river with the help of a crane, he said adding steamers were pressed into service to rescue the passengers.

    The injured persons were taken to Dholpur in Rajasthan where the bus was on its way from Morena, he said.

    District collector M K Agrawal has announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for the kin of deceased and Rs 25,000 for the injured.
