MSEDCL proposes 412 sub-stations, city to get 17

The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to launch the second phase of infrastructure development plan worth Rs 6,500 crore. As many as 412 sub-stations are being proposed, of which 17 will be in Pune.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had submitted the second part of its infrastructure development plan that proposes new substations and switching stations, additional power transformers and associated lines. Work related to new connections will also be taken up.

Of the total costs, 80 per cent is to be funded through loan from financial institutions with 20 per cent equity from the state government. According to senior MSEDCL officials, the second phase of the infrastructure development plan proposed setting up a proactive distribution network.

A total of 412 substations are being planned at a cost of Rs 950 crore while new high extra voltage lines for 20,000 kms will be laid at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore.

During the second phase of the infrastructure development plan, MSEDCL plans to set up 37,000 new transformers while capacitors worth Rs 80 crore will be fitted in substations. An additional 263 transformers will also be set up.

MSEDCL officials said the aim was to provide reliable power supply and 97 per cent of infrastructure development plan of Phase 1 has been completed at a cost of Rs 10,700 crore.

In the first phase, Rs 943 crore was spent on infrastructure development plans for the city.
