  • The Traffic Police might soon heave a sigh of relief.

M S University’s Department of Clothing and Textile and the Department of Textile Chemistry are in the final stages of their research on a new clothing for the traffic police personnel. The two departments have been conducting a research in this regard for the last three years.

A survey to identify the clothing needs of the traffic police had revealed that the police personnel had reported of disorders like tanning, skin burning, eye infection and respiratory system.

Taking these health problems as a baseline, MSU began work on developing a fabric that would be immune to several environmental hazards.

Besides, the Japanese Textile Association has also approached the university to know about the fabric on which it is working.

The two MSU departments, however, refused to divulge further information on the fabric.

Anjali Karolia, Head of Clothing and Textile Department, Faculty of Family and Community Sciences, said: “We cannot disclose about this project at present. We are on the verge of finding out the results. The fabric will be resistant to several environmental hazards and useful for those who work in the open.”

Rajni Yadav, a student of the Department of Clothing and Textile had conducted a survey to identify the clothing needs of the Traffic Police personnel. Results indicated that there was a need for clothing, which besides providing comfort, should also be functional.

According to Yadav, innovative design features were required to add to the prevailing uniforms for the easy use of various accessories provided to the police personnel to enhance their performance during duty hours.
