A day after a gun-battle between CPM and Trinamool Congress supporters left at least seven injured at Khanakul,Trinamool leader and Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy visited the area and held out an open threat to the police saying “future will not be happier for the cops if unlicensed arms stockpiled by CPM cadres are not seized”.

Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, who was scheduled to visit the area tomorrow, cancelled the programme due to “security reasons”.

Roy visited Balipur Bazaar this morning and spoke to his party’s local leaders who alleged the CPM cadres have “stockpiled a huge quantity of arms in their offices”.

Addressing a gathering at Chiladingi near Khanakul later, the minister alleged the police have taken no steps to recover unlicensed arms from CPM offices. Roy said Bannerjee would visit Arambag on October 25.

“We are taking note of every incidents happening here. The activities of every police officer are being noted down. Their future will not be very rosy if they do not take any action,” the minister warned the police.

Roy also accused Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee of preparing the “blueprint” of yesterday’s violence before leaving for Delhi.

The minister said whenever he (the chief minister) leaves the state, something brutal happens. “The Nandigram carnage took place when he was out of the state. He was not in Bengal when Mamata Banerjee was beaten up in Singur block office and Rizwanur died under mysterious circumstances. It is now clear that before leaving West Bengal,he always gives instructions to the police and party cadres to do something brutal,” Roy said.

“If Central forces could be deployed to tackle left extremism in Lalgarh, why can’t the same happen at Khanakul, where CPM has established rule of the jungle?” the minister asked.

Roy also visited Chinsurah Imambara hospital where three of his in injured party supporters are undergoing treatment. Police said the Trinamool Congress has not lodged any complaint till this evening. The CPM,however, had lodged a complaint but no one could be arrested, said a police officer.
