After a loss of face in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, the Samajwadi Party is chalking out its own model of social engineering.
Failing to come back to power with the help of the Yadav-centric district leadership in the state, the party is now planning to try out a combination of Yadav, Kurmi and Muslim leadership.
The new model is already being tried in eastern Uttar Pradesh where the party’s confidence in a Yadav leadership did not bear the expected results in the last election. Earlier, the six districts of eastern UP had Yadav district presidents. Recently, after a series of meetings, held in Lucknow in presence of the former Chief Minister and party President Mulayam Singh Yadav, three non-Yadavs were appointed as district presidents.
Dayaram Chaudhary and Ajay Chaudhary have been appointed presidents of Basti and Siddharthnagar respectively. They are both Kurmis and the two districts where they have been appointed are also Kurmi-dominated. Interestingly, there is also substantial support for Dadua, the dacoit who was killed by the STF last month.
Inamullah has been made the new president of Gorakhpur Mahanagar. In Maharajganj, Kushinagar and Deoria, Rajesh Yadav, Ram Awadh Yadav and Genalal Yadav have been given charge of the party. They have also been given instructions to select secretaries from the Kurmi or Muslim community.
In Mau, Arshad Jamal has replaced Amresh Chandra Pandey. Jamal has also been asked to add a few Kurmis and Yadavs in his team.
In Sant Kabir Nagar, Algu Chauhan, a Kurmi, has replaced Lorik Yadav.
