Indicating his growing distance from the ruling Congress,Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday trained his guns on the government saying that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is unable to act on his own.
It appears that the PM is unable to function independently. He is being controlled by his party from behind, he said.
The SP is supporting the Congress-led UPA from outside. Mulayam, who is gearing up for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls early next year, however, was non-committal on withdrawing his support to the government. Only time will tell. The Congresss conduct will decide this question, he said in response to a query whether he will withdraw support to the UPA.
With the Congress intensifying its attack on the SP in the run-up to the UP polls,Mulayam took a dig at Congresss aggression against him saying that the grand old partys electoral prospects appear bright only in the media. He even made light of reported impressive gatherings at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhis mass contact programmes in the state and claimed that his partys mass contact programmes undertaken by SP state unit chief Akhilesh Yadav were drawing much larger crowds.
