  • Salinder Singh is in Vigilance Bureau’s custody, his colleagues on strike to protest against the arrest

Even as tehsildars and naib tehsildars of Ludhiana are on strike at present to protest against the arrest of Mullanpur naib tehsildar Salinder Singh, the Vigilance Bureau has found that Salinder would wind up hundreds of registries in a single day, allegedly in lieu of hefty bribes.

Salinder was caught red-handed last week while accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000, according to Vigilance officials.

Documents prepared by the Bureau, a copy of which is in possession of the Newsline, states in clear words that days on which Salinder was on duty, he would wind up more than a hundred land registries in one day. On days he was not on duty, only 30-40 land registries in a day would be cleared. This is evident by the chart of an entire month prepared by the Bureau.

On December 2 last year, Salinder cleared a total of 116 land registries, another 177 on December 16 and a whooping 233 on December 26, the record states.

An official of the Bureau said: “Interestingly, Gurjinder Singh, the man who is supposed to do all the registries at this office, would be sent on some errand on many days thereby making it possible for Salinder to occupy his seat and carry out the task. It was on these days that he would take handsome bribes to clear registries.”

Another list prepared by the VB states Salinder owns 26 properties. All these properties are situated in Patiala and the Bureau has pegged the value of these in crores. Salinder, as per the Vigilance department, had spent Rs 25 lakh to have these properties registered, which as per the documents are owned by him, his father, son and brothers. The registries of these properties were found by the Bureau during raids.

VB SSP Kanwarjit Singh said: “We are doing our job. Somebody had complaint against Salinder and we caught him red-handed. Our investigations have found more incriminating evidence against him. We are just doing our duty.”
