The Kerala government in the Supreme Court has opposed Tamil Nadus proposal to have an independent expert committee headed by the Central Water Commission to review the proposed strengthening work of the Mullaperiyar dam.
Counsel Rajeev Dhawan, appearing for Kerala, submitted before the three-member bench,Such a committee may not inspire command. Tamil Nadu wants to strengthen the dam while Kerala wants it dismantled.
Kerala instead suggested that it was willing to accept an independent panel comprising two experts, one each from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, apart from two experts and one member from CWC.
However, the court objected to this argument and retorted,The CWC is a statutory body. Do not label it with tar.
