  • In the wake of the recent terror attacks, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) will soon have a multi-layered detection system in place to tighten security around the airport before Commonwealth Games in 2010.

The Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) will help the airport have a fool-proof and fortified security system to be able to detect any intrusion well in time, according to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

With an aim to increase security during the 2010 Commonwealth Games and after reports of heightened threat perception in China during the Olympic Games earlier this year, experts said the system would help in providing a high level of protection for persons and property within the secured areas of the airport.

The four-layered security system will set off an alarm in case of an intrusion, officials said. “It will be effective in any kind of weather and help in enhancing the efficiency of the security personnel in responding to security breaches,” said a senior CISF official.

A senior DIAL official said the system would be in place much before the Games . “Internationally reputed companies will be asked to bid and execute work on the project,” the official said.

“DIAL has confirmed that the system will be put in place before the new international terminal, T3, becomes operational. If everything goes well and the frequency of false alarms is not high, the system will help check delays, detect, assess, and track potential or actual breaches,” the CISF official said.
