Mumbai knock Punjab out from Vijay Merchant Trophy

Needing 160 runs to record an outright win over Punjab in the second innings, Mumbai raced to the target with ease for the loss of four wickets in 53 overs in the pre-quarterfinal match played during U-16 cricket tournament for Vijay Merchant Trophy at Shivaji College, New Delhi.

Mumbai took a vital first innings lead of 87 runs by scoring 396 runs in reply to Punjab's total of 309 runs. Playing in the second innings, Punjab declared their innings at 247 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Keeping the equation in mind, Mumbai required 160 runs in the second innings to beat Punjab. Playing to their potential, Mumbai achieved the target losing four wickets to record a six-wicket comprehensive win to move into the quarter finals. In the second innings, Punjab's innings revolved around Rajat Sharma (67), Lakshay (54), and Sanvir Singh (39). For Mumbai, S.Khan (3 for 58) and H.Pawar (2 for 55) were the main wicket-takers. In their run chase, Mumbai were helped by U.J.Jaiswal (57), A.K. Jaffar (48) and A.W.Usmani (34). For Punjab, Resham (2 for 60) and Sanvir Singh (2 for 51) were the most successful bowlers.
