After two failed attempts,Mumbai police on Monday successfully sought custody of a dreaded gangster Om Prakash alias Babloo Srivastava. Srivastava, who is wanted in a case where he allegedly planned the kidnapping of Vishwanath Mittal from near Express Towers,is undergoing a life sentence in a murder case in Kanpur. Special Tada Judge D U Mulla granted Srivastava to police custody till March 3 for further interrogation in the case. Atleast on two occasions earlier, the police had failed to seek his custody after the investigating officer forgot to mention the reason of his custody in the application. On one instance, the investigating officer had furnished the application to the jailor of Uttar Pradesh and not the court, for his transit remand. This error had led to over a months delay in the case. Srivastava has a large number of cases pending against him in Delhi,Lucknow and Kanpur for murder and extortion.
