Mumbai underground: Wild goose chase

Media gathered at Bandra Metropolitan Court to report the Spanish woman rape case went berserk seeing a foreigner. Unmindful that the woman had come to the court in connection with a property dispute, photographers began hounding her right after she alighted from her car. The drama went on for over 15 minutes, during which the woman kept shuttling between one courtroom and another, till shutterbugs became frustrated and finally gave up.

Killer question

When a journalist asked at a press conference to announce a murder detection if financial crisis was the reason for the crime, an amused Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy said, "We all are in financial crises. But we do not kill."

'Sibling' rivalry

Corporators, officials, scribes and peons alike look forward to exchanges between Waqarunnisa Ansari of Congress and Yakub Memom of Samajwadi Party at BMC general body meetings. Mayor Sunil Prabhu, resisting the urge to laugh, ensures the two speak one after the other. When a fellow Congress corporator backed Ansari in one of the exchanges, Memom said, "You support her because she is your sister." Ansari indignantly replied, "I am your sister too!" To which, the SP corporator said, "No, you are my stepsister."

My ailing Thackeray

Former aides are going overboard to express concern for ailing Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray. An ex-Sena leader who is now with a rival party said: "I took a truckload of workers and we all prayed together for him. He continues to be close to our heart." He claimed he was also temple-hopping with wife to conduct pujas for Thackeray. Meanwhile, industries minister Narayan Rane publicly expressed the wish to meet his former mentor but said he did not know if he would be allowed an audience.
