The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decided to constitute a committee to formulate a policy for the allotment of roundabouts and green patches on V-4 and V-5 roads to private firms for maintenance.
The decision was taken during the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC), held under the chairpersonship of Mayor Kamlesh, on Thursday.
At present, the civic body allocates roundabouts for maintenance in lieu of which the private firm is allowed to put up an hoarding. It had earlier been proposed that the civic body charge a fee from the private firms for giving them space to advertise.
Members of the F&CC, however, felt that the results of leaving roundabouts and green patches in private hands was not satisfactory.
It was decided that a four-member committee be constituted to study the issue. The members of the new body would be decided by the Mayor.
Among others who attended the meeting were councillors Jatinder Bhatia, P K Mukherjee, Anu Chartarh and Jagjit Singh Kang.
Acting Municipal Commissioner P K Sharma, Joint Commissioner T P S Phoolka, Assistant Commissioner Kamlesh, Chief Engineer S K Bansal, SE (Public Health) RK Goyal, SE (B&R) Yogesh Gupta and other senior officers of MC were also present.
The committee also approved the development of the dumping ground as a theme garden. An amount of Rs 35 lakh will be earmarked for the purpose.
The green signal has also been given for an active simmering volcano water feature at the green belt in Sector 35 which would cost Rs 24.71 lakh.
