After Zandu Balm,Malaika Arora-Khan’s new prescription is Vitamin M

In the late ‘90s,most lovelorn youngsters turned to MTV every afternoon for a dose of Malaika Arora. On MTV Loveline, she doled out sincere advice to aching hearts along with a generous view of her unending legs.

A decade later, this VJ-turned-most-sought-after-item-girl’s appeal has increased. That makes her the perfect ambassador to talk about the changes that her old channel would be undergoing soon. She has been back on MTV since last Saturday with all her oomph intact. “The channel asked me to do a show for them. But I did not want that since I have moved on now. So I agreed to do a promotional campaign for them called Vitamin M,which will be on air everyday for the next two months,” she says. Here, she will be seen in about 10 vignettes — promoting the channel and giving an insight into all its activities. This will be an extension of the channel’s ‘Stay Raw’ campaign. “Vitamin M stands for Malaika as well as MTV and also Munni,” smiles Arora-Khan,whose item number in Dabangg has helped her scale new heights of popularity.

Her long (and fond) association with the channel was the reason she agreed to this comeback. But then the channel reciprocates her feelings. “Malaika has remained super sexy and super cool over the years. So has our channel. We can always associate them together,” says Aditya Swamy, head,MTV,who thought Arora-Khan would be the first and best choice to represent the changing face of MTV.

Arora-Khan recalls the beginning of her association with the channel way back in 1997 when MTV started its operations in India and she had gone to audition for MTV Grind. Soon, she bagged her own show Loveline. “I had the time of my life hosting it. I am overwhelmed when people still come up to me and compliment me for the show,” she says. When funny man Cyrus Broacha became her co-host on the show, the fun just doubled. Arora-Khan also went on to host Style Check, which became very popular with the youngsters waking up to the newer concepts of dressing up.

Around the same time, she was also making a huge splash in Bollywood, thanks to item numbers like Chaiyya Chaiyya and Mahi Ve. It has also made her explore different aspects of television, particularly reality shows. “It’s all about evolving with time. Now there are more reality shows as opposed to the music-based shows,” she says.

Now though she wants to take her role as a producer seriously. After Dabangg’s success,Arbaaz Khan and her production house hopes to announce more films soon. “Our main purpose is to produce interesting cinema. We will soon announce our next project,” she signs off.
