Murder accused gets life term

Eleven years after a person was accused of murdering a students’ union president,a Delhi court on Wednesday sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Eleven years after a person was accused of murdering a students’ union president,a Delhi court on Wednesday sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau awarded the sentence to Jitender alias Kalla for the murder of Anil Bhadana,the then President of Satyawati College students’ union. The quantum of punishment for killing the father of a witness within an hour of the incident will be pronounced on Thursday.

On March 10,1999,according to the prosecution,Kalla had shot dead Bhadana at a marriage function in Keshavpuram area as he was reportedly going to depose against the accused in a criminal case.

Sumit Nayyar,friend of Bhadana,who had informed the police about the incident,had to pay a heavy price as Kalla went to his home at Mukherjee Nagar and pumped three bullets in the chest of his father L Nayyar to scare him.

Kalla was arrested on January 24,2000.

The court acquitted Jitender Gulati,who was accused of helping Kalla locate Sumit’s home in Mukherjee Nagar.
