Murder charges framed against Monika Goyal’s husband, in-laws

The court of District and Sessions Friday framed charges of abetment to suicide and murder against the in-laws of 32-year-old computer teacher, Monika Goyal, who was found dead in her room at her Sector 21 residence on October 15.

The case has been adjourned to March 15 for the examination of witnesses.

Charges have been framed against all the four accused, Vikas Goyal, husband of the deceased, JP Goyal and Prem Lata, her in-laws and Vishal Goyal, Monika's brother-in-law have been under Sections 302 (Murder), 306 (abetment to suicide) and 201 (disappearing the evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).

The defence counsel has also asked for the video footage of the scene of crime and the time when the UT Police had recreated the scene using a dummy of the size and weight of the deceased. The arguments for providing the same will also be held on March 15.

The accused had been arrested by the UT Police on October 16 when the family of the deceased claimed that Monika did not commit suicide but was murdered by her in-laws. Reportedly, the deceased was having certain problems in her married life. On December 15, Monika's in-laws said that she had committed suicide.

Later, on getting certain reports from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), the Special Investigation Team headed by DSP East, Vijay Kumar, the charges of murder were added.
