Meanwhile,Dr Shashi Kumari, wife of former CMO Dr Vinod Arya, too wants a CBI investigation into her husband’s murder. Dr Arya was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle while he was taking a morning walk near his Vikas Nagar residence on October 27 last year.

“I began demanding a CBI inquiry after the 13th day rites of my husband. I met senior government officials four times with my demand for a CBI investigation, but no one responded,” said Shashi Kumari over phone from Noida where she is the Additional Chief Medical Officer.

After Dr Arya’s murder, his successor Dr B P Singh was also shot dead while taking a morning walk near his Gomtinagar residence on April 2. Last Wednesday,Sachan was found dead in Lucknow jail, less than a week after the government alleged that he had organised the killing of Dr Singh and had a link with the murder of Dr Arya.

Dr Shashi Kumari said: “They all knew each other and were connected professionally. Today, the bereaved families of all three are not only shocked but also totally unaware of how all this happened and whether there will be justice at the end of the day”.

Joint Director in the same department as her husband,Dr Shashi Kumari got a transfer to Noida after Dr Arya’s murder. “My children are young and I have to safeguard their future,” she said.

Malti Sachan,in her complaint to the police sent on Thursday, alleged that her husband was murdered at the behest of influential persons involved in financial bungling in the Family Welfare Department.

She had also faxed the complaint to Principal Secretary (Home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur,DGP Karamvir Singh, and Lucknow DIG D K Thakur. But the police said they could not lodge an FIR because a judicial inquiry was on.

Dr Sachan was found dead in a toilet on the unused first floor of the jail building last Wednesday night. The body rested on the commode, with the belt of his trousers around his neck and the other end tied to the grill of the ventilator. There was blood on the floor.
