Who’s in it? So what if he played a creepy and mysogynistic priest,who serves the First Evil on Buffy the Vampire Slayer ? There couldn’t be a more perfect actor than Nathan Fillion to essay Castle’s oh-so masculine charm and slightly degenerate lifestyle. And playing the perfect foil to Fillion’s flamboyant writer,is Stana Katic,as the controlling and rigid Detective Beckett. Not that she isn’t human—we find that she’s in the force because she lost a loved one at the hands of an unknown assailant. We also find out that she has a weakness for crime fiction and is,secretly,a Castle fan girl.

What’s hot? The chemistry between the lead pair is palpable and the rest of the cast also manage to hold their own. Moreover,despite the gruesomeness of some of the murders,there’s surprisingly little to make the fainthearted break into a cold sweat. It does not look as grim as Law and Order,but neither does it look as pretty as Desperate Housewives,so it manages to find a nice balance.

What’s not? The murders are nice and meaty,but why do all crime shows fall victim to the same clichés? An impossibly good-looking lead pair,unbelievably rapid-fire repartee and neatly resolved cases—all serve to stretch the viewer’s credulity.

Should you be watching it? A crime fiction show,especially one as enjoyable as this,is a definitely forgivable guilty pleasure. Be sure to indulge.
