Murder weapon recovered: NIA tells court

The NIA on Monday claimed to have recovered the weapon used to kill right wing activist Sunil Joshi from Balbir Singh, his alleged accomplice who was arrested recently from Mandalwada in Indore district.

The NIA told a designated court in Bhopal that Lokendra Sharma and Rajendra Chaudhary alias Pehelwan, the accused in the case, had stayed at Balbir Singh's house after Sunil Joshi's murder on December 29, 2007.

Sharma, Singh and Pragya Thakur were produced before the court. While seeking further remand for Sharma, the agency told the court that Sunil Joshi's accomplices were afraid that he may reveal their activities and expose the group.

Sharma was remanded in in the custody of the NIA for 10 days, which will take him to Dewas where Sunil Joshi was shot dead.

The NIA said the accused had given a detailed account of how Joshi organised training for the group in Bagli forest, near Dewas, in carrying out blasts, using firearms and rope climbing etc. Singh was remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, a defiant Pragya Thakur said in the court premises that "saffron strikes fear among the minds of anti-nationals, liars, evil persons and sinners".

While equating saffron with sacrifice, she said "saffron was sufficient (to eliminate) Congress".

HC questions NIA on Pragya treatment

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday asked the NIA to state whether it will provide treatment to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The court also asked the agency to state whether it has any objection to Thakur being released on bail on medical grounds. ENS
