The "western outlook" about women was a reason for rape and the concept that women were inferior to men was "repugnant" to Indian philosophy, BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said on Friday.
"The difference between western concept and Indian concept is that one considers them (women) the weaker sex and we consider them the mother sex," he said.
Releasing a book titled 'Dented and Painted-Beyond Flesh' here, he said, "Because you consider them weaker sex you rape and because we consider them mother sex we worship."
Quoting anecdotes, he said Indian concept about women never painted them as inferior and the very concept that woman is inferior to man was repugnant to various schools of Indian philosophy.
Woman was not a body but persona, mind, intellect and above all 'universal mother," he added.
