Murray to set up Startup School for young entrepreneurs

Freeman Murray, legendary entrepreneur and mentor from the US, will be setting up a Startup School here for young entrepreneurs in collaboration with Startup Village -- India's first telecom incubator.

Murray's Startup School will be set up in partnership with the Startup Village and Jaaga.in, a hub of digital creativity in Bangalore supporting designers, startups, and digital freelancers of all types.

The school would enroll 100 students initially for a six-month course, ofwhich four months would be for residential class at the start up village campus, Murray told reporters here.

Students with better ideas and entrepreneurship skills would be selected for the final two month course, he said.

"It is a great time to start a technology company.

Internet has made it possible for smart people everywhere to create products and earn money online," Murray, who has been working with technology startups for the past 15 years in India and the US and is an Angel Investor, said.

"I am setting up this programme in Kerala to help young people who are interested in technology and entrepreneurship to start technology companies," he added.

In India, Murray had earlier run an incubation programme at IIM Ahmedabad. He has also set up a large art and technology space in Bengaluru, called Jaaga.in. Since 2000, he has been an active angel investor for over 20 companies in the US and India.

Startup Village CEO Sijo Kuruvilla said engineering colleges in the state are showing interest in the government's new entrepreneurship policy, extending various concessions to students with entrepreneurship skills to encourage them to set up their own ventures.
