Music piracy: Cyber cell arrests engg student

The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested an engineering student in Rajkot,who was allegedly running a website from where people could download pirated music.

The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested an engineering student in Rajkot,who was allegedly running a website from where people could download pirated music.

The student has been identified as Kalpesh Patel,a final-year engineering student. He was arrested on July 2.

Acting on a complaint filed by the Indian Music Industry (IMI),the Cyber Cell began investigating the website http://www.songsdl.com ,that was allegedly doling out pirated music for free on the Internet. The police found that Patel had set up the website in 2010,and tracked him down in Rajkot. He was then taken to Jamnagar,where a laptop and hard disk were seized from his residence,and was then brought to the city.

Investigations have revealed that Patel had also allegedly been running a similar pirated music website http://www.mp3don.com since 2006.
