Addressing a huge gathering during the Inter-College Youth Festival of PAU, the vice-chancellor, Dr Manjit Singh Kang said that music had a unique power to inculcate humanity among people. He said that a person listening to music often became soft tempered and violence-discouraging individual.
He lauded the students for taking part in the youth festival, adding that this helped in developing talent. Dr Kang said that music had been given due status in ancient Indian scriptures. He said that the writers, singers and musicians should endeavour to stop melody from becoming noise.
The Director, Students Welfare, Dr PPS Lubana said that massive participation of students in musical events in the youth festival indicated their interest in music. He said that through the activities of University Dance, Drama and Music Club and Young Writers Association, the students were being motivated in these soft talents.
In the youth festival, the students performed folk songs, creative dances, musical events (classical music, light vocal, Indian group songs, western solo and western group song) in the afternoon of the inauguration day.
The main attraction for today was shabad gayan (solo and group) contests wherein students from the four constituent colleges took part. The stage was managed by Dr Sarabjit Singh, who also spoke on the melody in gurbani. The quiz session was conducted by Dr SS Hundal.
The one-act-play, mime and mimicry were presented in the afternoon session that enthralled the audience. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Dev), Devinder Singh presided over while the old PAU alumnus, JK Jain, PCS, was the guest of honour.
