Muzzafar Beigh resigns as MLA

Senior PDP leader Muzzafar Hussain Beigh tendered his resignation from the state assembly.

Senior PDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzzafar Hussain Beigh today tendered his resignation from the state assembly and a letter in this regard was sent to party president Mehbooba Mufti.

The reasons for his decision to quit as MLA were not immediately known.

While sources close to him said Beigh had taken the decision to resign since he felt that the state assembly had become “meaningless”,there were also reports he was unhappy with PDP for not playing a positive and a meaningful role in the current situation as the main opposition party.

Beigh could not be reached for his comments despite repeated attempts.

Beigh,who was elected to the state assembly for the first time in 2002 elections,retained Baramulla seat for the party in 2009 elections as well.

Mehbooba Mufti was not immediately available for comments.
