  • Mystery still shrouds the death of a 27-year-old Sikh woman and three infants whose bodies were found concealed in a suitcase ten days ago at a basement suite in a Canadian town.

Harsimrat Kahlon was found dead on October 4 by her boyfriend Harnek Mahal, inside the suite in Calagary town in Alberta province.

Kahlon grew up in Chandigarh and came to Calgary in 1999, her brother, Harpreet, said. Kahlon's sudden death is not considered a homicide, however police say the discovery of the infants' remains is suspicious, the Calagary Herald reported. Police said they are not looking for any other suspects.

Harpreet last saw his sister when she moved out of the family home in 2005, he said.

"She was really strong. Whatever she wanted to do, she did with her own life. She moved out, did her own thing."

The results of DNA tests on three dead newborns will be needed to determine if they belong to the Kahlon. Homicide investigators are yet to reveal the infants' ages, but the landlord says he never saw children in the basement suite he rented to Kahlon.

"I never heard babies. Never," said the home's owner.

Harpreet, said his sister had been estranged from what little family she had in Calgary. "She lived her own life. We literally had no contact with her," he said, who is now organising her funeral, expected next week.
