I went to this one strictly because of the first three names : how bad could it get, after all, when these stalwarts get together?

I’ve got news : it’s worse.

Om Puri plays the father of director and lead actor Rahul Aggarwal who goes by the name of Devki Nandan Tripathi, who invites us along for a darshan to his ‘gaon’. We know it’s a village because we see Puri going off into the fields, with a ‘lota’ in his hands,’janyeu’ around his ears, for his morning ablutions. Neena Gupta is the mother, and we know this because she wears a printed sari, covers her head, and talks about ‘chakki ka atta’.

Paresh Rawal plays a cop in Mumbai, where young Mr Tripathi fetches up to live and work. And Narayani Shastri, who’s done some good work on TV,makes her film debut as the ‘dulhan’ of the aforementioned Mr Tripathi. This last worthy shows that he has a gift for clean dialogue delivery, and little else.

This was meant to be gentle satire on how people can be fish out of water when they are away from their natural habitat. But what it turns out to be is a loud, unfunny diatribe, where every single character acts away madly.

I lasted 45 minutes by the clock, and I counted every one of them.
