Till date, they have not received any official word from the Tatas about their relocation to Sanand in Gujarat, where the Nano car factory will be set up.
In such a situation, the owners of these firms are setting their eyes on the October 16 vendor meet in Pune.
“More than 95 per cent of our work had been completed at Singur. We will be attending the meet on October 16 and are hopeful that some modalities will be worked out regarding relocation and compensation,” said Udayan Banerjee, Executive Director, Sharda Motor Industries Ltd.
Banerjee’s company was supposed to supply exhausts, convertors and suspension to the Tata Motors plant, and they had leased seven acres of land at Singur.
Similar concerns were expressed by Endurance Technologies Pvt Ltd, which was supposed to supply aluminum castings for Nano.
“Till date we have received no official word from Tata Motors. We will definitely be moving with the Tatas but nothing has been finalized yet. The Pune meeting will possibly make things clearer,” said Biswajit Choudhury, VP (marketing) of the firm.
Chairman of Tata Motors, Ratan Tata, is likely to address the vendors at the Pune meet. This will be the first national level vendor meet in the last two years.
Mayur Enterprise, which had leased 1.8 acres land at Singur and was supposed to supply sunwisers and bellows for the small car, plans to write a letter to West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) expressing its willingness to return the leased plot.
“Ideally we would like to get a refund. If not, we will see if any legal action can be taken,” said Rajesh Gupta, managing director of Mayur Enterprise.
