Looks like it’s curtains for not one but two Nano projects in West Bengal. While the Tatas, after packing their bags from Singur, resumed talks today with Karnataka for a new Nano site, an electrician from Mankundu near Singur also began packing up after Durga Punja organisers told him they were not interested in his Nano rollout light show for the puja pandal.
Durga Puja organisers of Padmapukur on Lansdowne Road had offered electrician Asim Das the illumination contract but had not given him any specific theme — Kolkata pandals have come up with themes ranging from Kargil to Osama bin Laden.
So Asim Das thought of a light show on the Nano. But when they found out, the organisers rejected the theme. He was given no explanation. “Not only will the state miss out on the Nano, but it seems the puja organisers don’t want it shown even as a light show. This is really unfortunate,” said Asim Das.
Das’s illumination uses LEDs and can also be assembled into computer-controlled arrays for special effects. He says he bad been doing cabling and wiring work at the Nano site in Singur before Mamata Banerjee showed up at the gates — an agitation that eventually drove out the Nano from the state.
