The Chandigarh Police will submit the supplementary chargesheet against Bijender, the third accused arrested on charges of raping a mentally challenged girl at Nari Niketan, within a fortnight.
An assurance to this effect was given by UT senior standing counsel advocate Anupam Gupta to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday.
Gupta said the Special Investigating Team (SIT) has spoken to the victim and confirmed the role of Bijender in the rape.
“There is no doubt whatsoever in this regard. The SIT has done a good job,” Gupta added.
Meanwhile, the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities, New Delhi, filed its affidavit in the High Court.
A division bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Augustine George Masih had asked the trust to clear its stand with regard to the dispute over custody of the rape victim.
Filing a reply on behalf of the trust, its legal adviser, Asim Kumar Pal said: “The trust has no adversarial position with the Chandigarh Administration. We are providing and will continue to provide the best medical facilities to the victim.”
Disapproving the conduct of Chandigarh Administration, which had turned down the ‘assistance package’ offered by the trust, the trust’s reply stated: “The ‘assistance package’ entailed valuable help which the Chandigarh Administration appears to have misconstrued and failed to appreciate.”
Reacting to the sharp remarks made against the trust by the UT Administration, the reply states: “The trust does not accept and strongly objects to the uncharitable remarks made against it. The National Trust has been quite disappointed with the attitude of the Chandigarh Administration.”
