  • A Special court heard the application of the accused in the Naroda Gam case on Wednesday, which they had filed on October 26 urging the court to halt trial in case the investigations are still continued.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Wednesday. Public Prosecutor Nigam Shukla said: “The accused had contended that continuing investigations during the trial is against the rule of justice.”

All the accused in the case, including state BJP leader Dr Maya Kodnani and VHP leader Jaydeep Patel were produced in the court today.

Eleven people were killed when a violent mob attacked the Muslim dominated locality of Naroda Gam on February 28, 2002. The rioters had gone on a rampage damaging property worth over Rs 4.17 crore in Naroda Gam.

Kodnani and Patel are accused under the Indian Penal Code for conducting and instigating riots, while V S Gohil, a policeman, is accused of dereliction of duty and abetment.

Why to stop trial?By: Divyesh Raythatha | 30-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Let the facts be revealed and the accused would be able to prove themselves innocent. It is in the interest of everyone that proper investigations are done and court trial is going to reveal the facts and the truth will be open.
