At a time when the north Indians are being targeted in many parts of Maharashtra by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MSN), a Marathi film Mumbai Amchich’ (Mumbai is only ours) made on the same subject, is all set for release in Nashik on Friday.
Nashik, an MNS stronghold, bore the brunt of the recent violent campaign in which one person was killed.
The Nashik police on Thursday was busy making security arrangements. “Security has been beefed up in the city and near the theatre where the movie is going to be released on Friday. Law and order will be maintained at all cost,” Nashik Police Commssioner S M Sayyed said. The film was released in Solapur and five other cities a few weeks ago, but failed to cause any flutter.
The story of the film is based on the north Indians who come to Mumbai and settle down after “grabbing jobs and businesses” keeping the original Marathi people unemployed. The hero takes revenge by killing north Indian gangsters, announcing: “Come to Mumbai and assimilate here honestly. But never try to snatch the bread and butter of the Marathi people. Else be ready to face the wrath”. The hero also calls upon the Marathis to work hard if they want to keep the north Indians away.
Talking to The Indian Express here on Thursday, director, producer and hero of the movie advocate Sharad Bansole said he saw nothing wrong with the timing of the film’s release in Nashik.
