The National Commission for economically backward classes,entrusted with suggesting parameters to identify those falling in this group and quantum of reservation for them,will submit its report to the Union government by May end this year. Chairman of the commission,S R Sinho told reporters that it had so far visited 26 states and HP is the last state it is visiting. Sinho said reservation for SC,ST and OBC is not within the purview of the commission and it will only give its recommendation for the general categories of people who are economically backward. As a long term measures,Sinho said,quality education is the only way to pull up these economically backward classes above poverty line,which Maharashtra government has started. He said Rajasthan is the only state which has set up a welfare board for economically backward people.
