The national language is gradually losing its craze in the northeastern states if the trend of students studying in Hindi medium in CBSE affiliated schools there is any indication.

The number of students appearing for the Class X examination in Hindi medium conducted by Central Board of

Secondary Education (CBSE) has constantly declined in the last three years.

In 2006, the number of students appearing for Class X in Hindi medium in the eight states was 1,675 which declined to 1,485 the next year and again plummeted to 1,161 this year, Minister of State for HRD M A A Fatmi informed the Lok Sabha.

Except Assam, the number of students in Hindi medium in other states remain negligible. In Mizoram, there were 18 students in Hindi medium in 2006 which came down to 15 and seven in 2007 and this year respectively.

The major languages used as the medium of instructions in education in these states include English, Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, Garo, Khasi, Mizo, Angami, Ao, Konyak, Lotha, Sema, Kokbarak.

he government is also providing financial assistance for appointment and training of Hindi teachers in non-Hindi speaking states, he said.

Antiquated Rajbhasha policyBy: Sujay Rao Mandavilli | 24-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward spreading the language of a region using political force is dangerous. All such states have broken up. India is a truly multi-ethnic society and has been so since 5000 or more years .. Hindi speaking states can promote Hindi with their own resources ... this was primarily created for Musim-hindu unity and the Rajbhasha policy is one of the last two relics of Nehrunvian india, the other being Marxist historiography. Switch to a unity in diversity model. Liberal decentralization plus central driven strategy and initiatives plus special package for north eastern india and kashmir.how can a govt promote a policy when so many people are against it? this is the only black mark on an otheriwse great country
national languageBy: ilakkuvanar thiruvalluvan | 23-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward As per our constituency there is no category of national language. but our central government falsely propaganda that hindi is our national language and spend more and more than other all languages. medium of instruction should be in the mother language. but chance should be provided to learn other languages. Tamil (Thamizh) language is mother languages of all the languages. some thousand years back, only Tamil (Thamizh) language was spread all over our continent. so facilities to learn Tamil (Thamizh) should be provided to all the parts of india.
national languageBy: Bhaarath | 22-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward For your kind information, Hindi is not our national language. It is one of the 25 official languages of India. Hindi was made the official language of the union government by the then Prime Minister Pandit Nehru. Hindi took precedence over other languages of India because it was the official language of the most powerful part of India i.e. the centre and the central government and hence gained national dominance. And right now America is the most powerful part of the world and few decades back England was the most powerful empire. Therefore English is gaining dominance as the international language. Once upon a time Sanskrit was the dominant language in the world because India was the most powerful nation. Therefore the languages of Europe, Central Asia, India and South East Asia are all derived from Sanskrit as has been proved scientifically. Hence if we want to have a national language for identity or use it must be Sanskrit.
