As part of its strategy to undertake developmental work in the Left Wing Extremism affected areas of three districts — West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia — the state government has earmarked Rs 1,600 crore for the development of the area in the first phase.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who is going on a two-day visit to Midnapore on November 7, will discuss both law and order situation and developmental projects at his meeting with top district officials and other top brass of the state administration.
Bhattacharjee for the first time will meet the 10 Block Development Officers (BDOs) of the areas affected by Naxal violence.
“The provision of security guards to government employees and protecting government offices so that the projects can be implemented fast will also be discussed,” said Subesh Das, principal secretary to the chief minister. The 10 BDOs have also been provided with security guards.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the CM’s visit. Bhattacharjee will be spending one night very close to the Ground Zero of Maoist violence.
