'Naxals carried out 1,128 raids, killed 455'

    A total of 107 naxalites were killed and 861 naxals were arrested till June 30 this year.

    He also said "the National Investigation Agency has been constituted under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 to investigate and prosecute offences under the Acts mentioned in the schedule, which, inter-alia, includes the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as amended in 2008".

    Wastage of public money, and providing space for criminals in uniform to escape...By: CK Raju, Thrissur | 09-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Its grossly un-professional to mix multiple episodes, often unconnected, and then tie them up in a single strand to lend credibility to arguments advanced earlier. These are common fallacies and should be avoided. Two horizontal episodes here are events involving civilians and events involving state-officials. Clashes between civilians are to be treated as part of gang-wars, if the deceased are not innocents. Armed conflicts involving state-representatives, must necessarily have enough provocations. In tribal environment, its not uncommon for state's officials to get corrupt and in the process exploit the tribals or marginalised people. These incidents of human rights abuses are often unchecked, and marginalised people, in their limited understanding of the legal system, have no means of access to systems of justice. These factors are ground for armed counter operations, as they give the marginalised people, much solace for crimes committed against them. A reporting system that fails to track such atrocities committed prior to the violent attacks, is implicating itself within the injustice mechanisms. The biggest injustice in such one-sided reporting happens when the initial perpetrators of violence or atrocities, who often seek refuge by offering the most convenient explanation to the outside world, escape with immunity and worse, are free to replicate it elsewhere with the same ease. What a shame !! Palaniappan's think tank should be offering advice, that, much of such activities can be done away with if the state's offices involved are properly monitored on a real-time basis. In a cyber-savvy era, this is not just impossible, its far more credible and the cheapest way to retributive justice.

For long the government has been inactive and incapable in handling this social evil. The state govt and the central government should leave there internal politics and sort out a unified strategy to wipe out this problem from the whole country. Especially the north-eastern part of our country is strongly affected by naxalism. Our politicians and policy makers have for long forgotten that there are states in the north-eastern part also and they have problems as any other state in our country.
