  • Naxals have demanded the release of their three top comrades in exchange for freeing a police officer they abducted earlier this week.

A statement issued in the name of Samarji, secretary of the South Chhotanagpur Divisional Committee of the CPI (Maoist), in Kiriburu, West Singhbhum, on Saturday said Kobad Ghandy, Chhatradhar Mahato and Chandra Bhushan Yadav should be freed in exchange for Inspector Francis Induwar, who was abducted in Khunti district on September 30.

The 63-year-old, London-educated, Ghandy was arrested in New Delhi on September 20. Mahato, who organised tribals under the banner of the Maoist-backed Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities in Lalgarh, was picked up on September 26 by policemen posing as journalists. Yadav’s arrest was announced by police in Kolkata yesterday.

Induwar, an intelligence officer posted in Khunti with the Jharkhand Special Branch, was carried off by four armed men from a market where he had gone to purchase household goods. There has been no trace of him since, sources in the police said.

“Induwar is safe in our custody. We will free him only after the police release Gandhy, Mahato and Yadav,” Samarji was quoted as saying. A CPI (Maoist) pamphlet said: “The police are harassing a number of our cadres. We will now do the same with its cadres.”

Police spokesperson and IG S N Pradhan said hostage-taking was a “new and dangerous strategy” adopted by the Maoists. “We have taken note of it and hopefully we will come up with an appropriate move to counter it.”

Naxals demand Mahato,Gandhy release for release of abducted copBy: Utkarsh Leo | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward No there is little doubt why Jharkhand was an epicentre of the Maoist liberation struggle. It is this state where the DGP V D Ram was facing the charge of gobbling up crores of Rs meant for the Secret Service Fund and where the CAG had sought a CBI inquiry into it.But in this Congress ruled state,Home Minister P.Chidambram and Governor K.Sankarnarayanan, instead of going by the CAG,had preferred to hush it up.Hence their decision to go for an inquiry into it by state's chief secretary, home secretary and finance secretary to enquire into it.Every body knows the outcome of such inquiry. But the problem is the far reaching implications of such a move.Inspector's abduction and the Maoist's demand for the release of Gandhy,Mahato and Yadav in exchange of the abducted cop's freedom. In such a dangerous situation no body should raise an eye brow if the abducted Inspector and others engaged in gathering intelligence come out and join Maoists.
Congress and Naxal's are hand in glovesBy: freddie (Indian) | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward It looks like the naxal's are hand in glove with congress under the influnence of congress ruling MP. If the congress is ruling in part of the land how come this naxal's have taken this step there is something fishy going on between the naxal's and the congress. Congress must be supporting them otherwise who else got the gutts to do this. This never happened when the BJP was in power.
requestBy: Arun | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Once we cave in to the Naxal's threat once, then all the floodgates will open and there will be abductions every day and demands will be be more and more outragiuos. RIP inspector, our prayers are with you. No talks with the naxal goons, they understand the language of bullets only. So be it.
What is happening the Jharkahand?By: shanthanu | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward If only such incident were to happen in Gujrat all the media would have stood on their toes to report the matter as if the sky has fallen on earth and the State Government is sleeping doing nothing and even they would have doubted the Government's hand behind the carnage. But killing is next to nothing and abduction of a police officer is a usual news and need not be taken note of as something dastardly because the Congress is Ruling there.
