Three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and nine injured when Maoist rebels ambushed them at Mankapal village in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarhs tribal Bastar region.
The ambush took place when the security personnel were patrolling the area on Wednesday afternoon,police said,adding that a fierce encounter followed which continued late into the night.
The deceased have been identified as Manoj Kumar from Haryana,Govind Singh from Maharashtra and Satyendra Yadav from Uttar Pradesh. The injured personnel have been airlifted to the state capital where they were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital on Thursday. The condition of four of them is reported to be serious.
This Maoist attack on the security personnel came a week after the CPI(Maoist) announced its readiness to hold peace talks with the Chhattisgarh Government. CM Raman Singh had responded positively to the offer made by outlawed Dandakaranya regional committee spokesman Pandu alias Panduanna.
