Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator from Gondal Chandu Vaghasia, may face arrest in connection with a Rs 43-lakh government grant misappropriation case.
A suspended official of the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewage Board (GWSSB),Rajesh Sanghvi, has already been arrested for his alleged involvement in the 2002 scam.
Sanghvi was arrested as he was the official who had signed all the documents relating to a water supply project at Kotda Sangani village in Gondal taluka of Rajkot district in 2002.
According to a complaint registered by GWSSB,only Rs 10 lakh of the total Rs 43 lakh grant was used in the project. Vagashia was the Kotda Sangani sarpanch at that time.
We have collected all the documentary evidence, said DySP A C Jadeja. He added: Based on the statement of Sanghvi, and if there is any other evidence against the MLA,then Vaghasia will be arrested.
There are a total of 10 accused in the case, including three engineers and six businessmen.
In 2008,GWSSB had registered a complaint against Vaghasia with the Kotda Sangani police station in Rajkot.
A police officer said: There are four witnesses in the case. The statements of two of them have been recorded.
Vaghasia was elected to the state Assembly in 2007 when he defeated sitting BJP legislator Jayrajsinh Jadeja by 600 votes.
Accused in two murder cases,Jadeja had contested the elections while he was out on parole.
With the win,Vaghasia opened the fortunes of the NCP in the Saurashtra-Kutch region.
