NCP legislator Dilip Omkar Wagh,who reportedly went underground after a woman filed a rape complaint against him in Nashik,was arrested in Mumbai on Saturday evening.
The MLA from Pachora in Jalgaon district was reportedly absconding since February 24 after the Sarkarwada police registered an FIR against him based on the womans complaint.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deven Bharti confirmed the arrest by the Mumbai Crime Branch. Wagh was pick from Pali Hill,Bandra.
Earlier in the day,state NCP chief Madhukar Pichad said the party had suspended Wagh as the offence registered against him was serious. He,however,said the party wanted a detailed investigation of the case to bring out the truth.
According to the complaint filed at the Sarkarwada police station,the MLA had called the victim from Aurangabad to Nashik on February 21 on the pretext of finding her a job. Wagh had stayed overnight at Sinhagad building in the state governments rest house complex at Golf Club,Nashik with his personal assistant Mahesh Mali.
According to the victim,the MLA raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she complained against him.
The woman filed a written complaint on February 22,but the police registered the FIR only two days later.
Wagh (45) hails from Pachora town,where he was the president of the local municipal council for six terms. In 2009 he was elected as an MLA.
