With the increasing clamour within ruling alliance partners to fight elections on its own, the parliamentary board of NCP will meeting on January 22 in Mumbai primarily to decide its candidate for Gadhinglaj by-elections.
"All parties feel they should increase their strength, even our party feels the same way," said senior party leader and Mumbai Guardian Minister Jayant Patil.
The Gadhinglaj by-election was necessitated after the death of NCP MLA Babasaheb Kupekar last year. Kupekar represented the constituency for four terms.
Senior NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had recently said the party would like to contest all the seats in the Maharashtra Assembly.
The party is presently in an alliance with the Congress and there is rising demand from within both parties to go it alone in the polls. The NCP is also likely to discuss the imminent reshuffle in the state Cabinet. Both the Congress and the NCP are keen on carrying out a reshuffle before the 2014 elections and bring some new faces into the Cabinet.
