NCP to set up trust for drought relief

NCP has decided to set up a trust to mobilise funds for rehabilitation of students in rural areas reeling from drought. All NCP ministers, members of parliament and legislative assembly and council will donate a months salary to the trust.

Party chief spokesperson Nawab Mullik said, "The welfare trust will ensure students seeking higher education get scholarships and food in districts adversely affected by drought."

Minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope had announced the scheme last week. The trust has upset Congress. An MPCC general secretary said, "The trust will become a parallel centre for funds mobilisation. How can you expect ministers and elected members to donate to both CM and NCP trusts? It makes no sense to have two centres to raise funds for drought."

PIL against Gadkari: HC bench recuses

A division bench of Bombay High Court on Thursday recused itself from hearing a public interest litigation seeking a probe into alleged financial embezzlement by former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari. After the case was taken up on Thursday, the HC Bench said the matter would not be heard before them. The PIL will now be allotted to another HC bench.
