NCW to suggest guidelines for airlines staff

In the backdrop of alleged assault of an Air India airhostess by a pilot,National Commission For Women said it would come out with guidelines on working conditions in airlines.

In the backdrop of alleged molestation and assault of an Air India airhostess by a pilot onboard an international flight,National Commission For Women on Tuesday said it would come out with guidelines within a month on working conditions in airlines.

“Rules need to be changed so that conflict can be lessened. We have got several complaints,” NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas told reporters here.

She said most of the complaints pertain to differential pay,gender discrimination during promotions and misbehaviour towards female staff by pilots,officers and other crew members.

The latest incident was that of the Air India air hostess who alleged she was molested and assaulted by two pilots on board a Delhi-bound flight from Sharjah.

The Commission has constituted a five-member committee to probe the incident and asked it to submit its report within a month.

“The committee will have to submit a report within a month. They will talk to all those involved in the incident as well as the passengers of the flight tomorrow,” Vyas said.

The framing of the guidelines would include discussions with various private airlines also.

The air hostess had approached the women’s body with the complaint and the Commission had then sought a report from the national carrier besides deciding to constitute a committee.

The five member panel is headed by Commission member Wansuk Syem,former District Judge Jagan Nath,lawyer Kunwarjeet Sigh,Manorama Bawa and Mohinder Singh Malik.
