  • The National Commission for Women (NCW) said on Saturday that there was a need for a nationwide debate on the Delhi High Court judgement on section 377 of IPC which legalises homosexuality.

"The Commission feels that there should be a nation-wide debate on this as the entire society is involved," NCW Chairperson Giriya Vyas told reporters in New Delhi.

She said that during discussions with NGOs, civil society and government on the sexual assault Bill, there had been discussions on section 377 along with 375 and 376 dealing with sexual assault. But added that, "the debate needs to be wider".

After a meeting between the ministers of home, law and health, the Government appeared to be cautious in its approach to the controversial law relating to same gender sex.
