“There is a need to check large scale religious conversion being carried out in the country through inducements by incorporating the provision of embracing any faith before a competent authority…there is a need for a law which would give freedom to people to choose their religion,” BJP president Rajnath Singh said yesterday.

The country is facing lot of threats from within and outside and foreign forces are indulged in large scale religious conversion in the country with an aim to finish India’s strength of embracing all faiths of the world,he said while addressing the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ of senior BJP leader Kailash Narayan Sarang here.

Singh said nearly 30 per cent population were converted in Jharkhand,Chhattisgarh and North Eastern states mainly through inducements,thereby threatening the demographic profile of the nation.

Those opposing Ram Sethu or Amarnath Shrine Board land issue were also not successful in their designs because of the nationalist fervour of these leaders,he added. Citing examples of Jharkhand,Chhatisgarh and North Eastern states,Singh said that nearly 30 per cent population were converted in those states mainly through inducements,thereby threatening the demographic profile of the nation.

Praising Sarang,the BJP President said that leaders like him and late Kushabhau Thakare have toiled hard in establishing the party. Recalling his association with Sarang,Singh,who is also the Congress General Secretary revealed that late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia had given the task to Sarang to ensure that he (Singh) should join Jansangh.

“Though Sarang spend three full days in convincing me to join Jansangh,I decided to join Congress and since then I enjoy very close relationship with him,” Singh said.

Singh also said that many leaders,who were sitting on the dais and occupying important positions today is because of Sarang’s hard work,but he himself never opted for any post which is a rare quality in today’s materialistic world.

Former Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa recalled how he and Sarang collected nearly Rs three crore for the party by touring the state and described Sarang as a man of organisation.

The function was also addressed by Kailash Joshi and Digvijay Singh,BJP General Secretary Thavar Chand Gehlot and the State Party President Narendra Singh Tomar and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan among others.
