National seminar on Experiments and Innovations in Distance Education and Open Learning in the Globalised Era was organised by the University School of Open Learning,Panjab University today,and was inaugurated by vice-chancellor Professor R C Sobti.
In his address,Sobti dwelt on the need to have open learning system to raise gross enrollment ratio in higher education to 15 per cent by the end of the11th plan.
He emphasised upon ensuring access,quality and inclusion in the process.
IGNOU pro vice-chancellor Professor Parvin K Sinclair pointed towards individual differences among the learners needs and urged to respond to their requirements through appropriate media.
She also called for experimenting with the idea of accreditation and certification of prior learning of artisans and workers trained in traditional vocations,who have the skill but not the certification.
In the first session,around six presentations were made on the use of ICT in distance education.
The second session,chaired by Professor V K Gupta from the Kurukshetra University,had papers related to new trends and innovations in distance education in the globalised era.
